The Legacy of Taekwondo
Taekwondo is a modern martial art that has gained worldwide recognition. Since the Sydney Olympics in 2000, it has been officially included as an Olympic sport. Taekwondo is recognized by World Taekwondo (WT), as well as international and national Olympic associations. Additionally, it is acknowledged by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, and the Sports Authority of India. This sport is also featured in prestigious international competitions such as the National Games, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, and World Championships. Moreover, Taekwondo is included in the School Games Federation and various university-level tournaments.
In India, the Taekwondo Federation of India (TFI) operates as a recognized National Sports Federation (NSF), while at the state level, the Taekwondo Association of Maharashtra (TAM) functions as the officially recognized state association.
Against this backdrop, the Ratnagiri Taekwondo Sports Association has been functioning as an official Taekwondo sports organization in Ratnagiri district since 2002. It is officially registered with the Assistant Charity Commissioner, Ratnagiri, and is recognized by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Services, Maharashtra State, Pune, as well as the District Sports Office, Ratnagiri. The association is affiliated with the Taekwondo Association of Maharashtra (TAM), ensuring compliance with state-level guidelines and participation in state-level championships.
Through this organization, training, guidance, and various Taekwondo competitions are conducted across the district. Special emphasis is placed on women's self-defense training, empowering them with confidence and resilience. The association is committed to promoting sports education, physical fitness, and the development of a strong and healthy society through Taekwondo.
Each year, competitions are organized for various age groups, including Sub-Junior, Cadet, Junior, and Senior, along with promotional and preparatory open challenge tournaments. Additionally, events such as Poomsae and newly introduced formats in Taekwondo are incorporated. The association, through its academy, aims to establish a state-of-the-art training center equipped with modern facilities. This initiative will help introduce rural athletes to international-level Taekwondo and facilitate their selection process for higher-level competitions.
The Ratnagiri Taekwondo Sports Association is affiliated with both the Taekwondo Association of Maharashtra (TAM) and the Taekwondo Federation of India (TFI) and operates in accordance with official guidelines and organizational protocols. Keeping up with evolving trends, we strive to implement necessary improvements and provide new opportunities for athletes.
